Burt (formerly Brody)
Labradorable six year old Brody was adopted by his new parents, Lois and Bill, who drove down from Fort Collins with Duff, their Scottish Terrier to meet and adopt their new family member. Bill has had labs all of his life. He had lost his beloved lab companion earlier this year at the age of 14 1/2 and was looking for the right lab to bring into the family — and then he saw Brody and it was an instant love match. Brody, now Burt, will always be with someone, including his new canine brother, Duffy, and will spend forever in this wonderful home with this wonderful family. They will quickly get a little extra weight off of handsome Burt with a correct diet and lots of exercise!
Here they all are at Burt's adoption. Burt is a very lucky guy!

Colby
Sweet 6 year old Colby was adopted by his new parents, Darlene and Gene, who left Thanksgiving guests at home in Pueblo and hopped in their car to drive up to meet this special guy.
Colby has been living outside during the day with limited exercise and attention — he is now in dog nirvana with his very special parents. They are committed to a lifetime of love — special food to help him get over his "itchies", lots of walks, lots of love and free roam of his new home with people who will always be with him and take him everywhere.
Darlene and Gene showed up with a fluffy new dog bed for Colby to relax on, and were very attentive to every detail of his care and history. They clearly love him so much already.......and now he is in a very loving home with parents that are committed to spending LOADS of quality time with him every day.
He will have a wonderful life!

Hershey (formerly Max)
Marvelously energetic and gorgeous Hershey (formerly Max) was adopted by the perfect dad for him – Jeff – who is a volunteer fire investigator and firefighter.
Jeff lost his beloved lab very recently, and he had actually originally seen Max on Craig’s list 3 months ago. Knowing Max’s story and how tough it has been for this young guy did not put him off at al—he actually saw our amazing medical coordinator, Joy, working with Max when he arrived at our office a little early. He knows it will take some time and leadership, and he is the man for the job. Jeff and Max rode happily off into the sunset in the cab of Jeff’s truck to begin their wonderful life together.

Doc and Katie
We are delighted to share with you that 11 year old Doc and his lifelong mate, 10 year old Katie, were adopted by their new mom—and angel—Melinda.
These are really precious animals and when you see them curled up on a dog bed together smiling while they snooze, you kind of get tears in your eyes knowing that the past 1.5 years of their lives were spent in a shelter.
There are lots of angels out there and Doc and Katie had plenty. First—the man who ran the no kill shelter in Kansas where we got them from who kept them together and alive. Second—our amazing intake team who got them here. Third—Geoff and Tiffany Richardson who graciously kept these sweet babies while we found them the perfect home—and they were completely loved up while they were in their care. And last—their new mom, Mel. When I called her about her application and asked if she would consider two seniors, she immediately said YES and never looked back. Now Doc and Katie will spend the very best part of their lives with Mel in their new, loving forever home.

Trek
Isn’t it wonderful when things work out the way they were meant to all along? Bonnie and Trek (formerly Drake) first met as Foster Mom and Foster Dog and it quickly became obvious to both that they needed to think more long-term. It was pretty much a mutual love at first sight.
Here they are happily posing together on adoption day.

Willow
Willow just couldn’t be any happier then when she posed for her adoption photo with Ali and James. Sweet, loving and petite Willow has landed in dog heaven! She has three human siblings, a stay-at-home mom and LOTS of love in her forever home. Her life has really turned around after being abandoned and left all alone to fend for herself.
Her new family has waited a long to find the right dog and to make sure the children are all old enough to be around a sweet girl like Willow. She has found the perfect home and they have found the perfect Lab.

Toby (formerly Tibey)
Toby (formerly Tibey) was adopted by Mike, Tina and 8-year-old Nicholas. He happily posed for his adoption photo with Mike, Nicholas and his new “sister” Lucy the Lab (also a rescue). Lucy has been through obedience training and plans to start her agility classes for which she’s shown real talent. Toby plans to follow in her paw prints, attending obedience classes and then joining Lucy in agility training.
A lot of happy tail wagging goes on in Toby’s new home!
2-29-08 Here's an exciting update from Tibey's family — a testament that even the rambunctious ones have incredible potential with patience and training!
His new "mom" writes:
Just wanted to give a quick update on Toby, formerly known as Tibbey. Here he is in our Christmas photo, with Nicholas and Lucy. He is doing so well; we can’t believe anyone would have given him up! He loves our cats and our neighbors love him. He is very gentle and affectionate. It has been only five months since his adoption and the only habit we are still working on is chewing some objects. He has done very well at obedience class. In fact he was one of the “top dogs”. Thank you so much for all you do. Our neighbors have recently applied to adopt from you and when I am out running or hiking with the dogs I always plug Safe Harbor.

Guinness (formerly Riley)
Riley was officially adopted today by his wonderful new dad, Ryan, who started out fostering him and knew immediately he wanted to make him an official member of his family. Riley is a very lucky young guy – his beloved owner passed away last month and Riley was taken to a shelter where he was just one of many other “big black dogs.” A wonderful Good Samaritan took him and contacted us.
Ryan sent the following update and photo (how we love updates like
this!):
“Just writing you to let you know Guinness (formerly Riley) is doing
great with me. He's active (we take 2 walks, about 1 mile each, every
day), eating healthy (Innova/raw combo & Zukes treats), and is one very
happy pup (just look at that face!). His favorite thing in the world is
playing fetch in the backyard with me. It doesn't matter what time of
day or night, he will gladly chase his ball all over the place at full
speed. He's pretty affectionate too, and likes to wake me up by licking
my face, as if to say "I'm ready for my walk now, Dad! Get up!"
Guinness has gotten used to being at his new home and has grown very
close to me, hardly letting me out of his sight most of the time. I
take him to the lake by my house a couple times a month and we've also
taken a couple day trips up to the mountains. Boy, does he love that!
All those new smells to experience and animals to scare off! He's got
great personality and is an incredibly sweet dog. I'm very lucky for
that. He's never growled at me, my roommates, or even strangers. He
barks at first, but calms right down when they pet him.
Ryan and Guinness”
