Sophie

Sophie, Pam & LucySweet little Sophie left her brothers and has moved in with Pam and her new big sister, Lucy! Pam was able to rearrange her work schedule for the next several months — with the help of her wonderful local family so that Sophie always has someone around. Lucky Sophie came to Safe Harbor along with her brothers, Zeke and Charlie, quite ill after being surrendered by a breeder to a Good Samaritan. They were nursed back to health day and night by their foster mom (and SHLR medical coordinator) Joy.

We want to especially thank Dr Jeff Steen of Alameda East Veterinary Hospital and Joy for all the work they did getting Sophie ready for her new home.

Pictured here are Sophie, new mom Pam and big sister Lucy in her new home.

Fletcher

Fletcher with Carrie & ChadFletcher (formerly Buddy) went to his forever home with Carrie, Chad and Cooper. Carrie and Chad previously adopted Henry from Safe Harbor and lost him last summer. They were finally ready to get a new sweet boy to add to their wonderful little family this month.

Lucky Fletcher came to Safe Harbor when his family realized this outgoing, friendly guy needed more time and attention than their busy lives could provide. We are so happy we were able to help him find just the right, wonderful forever home.

Pictured here is Fletcher with Carrie and Chad in his new home.

Sammy

Sammy & familySammy went to his forever home with Joan and Steve and their family. They recently applied with Safe Harbor, and in the meantime they found the pretty yellow girl (left) who needed them, and she joined their family. Then they decided that Sammy would be the perfect boy to complement their new girl, so here they are on Sammy's adoption day.

Sammy was a beloved companion previously, but circumstances changed and he needed a new home.

Sammy is the handsome and very happy fellow with the blue ball in his mouth.

Charlie Brown (formerly Gabe)

Charlie Brown & familyCharlie Brown (formerly Gabe) went to his forever home with Mary and Bob and their kids and dog Lucy (seriously, how cute is that?!). He is a great addition to their home in the mountains, and he is in heaven playing with the kids and Lucy on all the acreage.

This sweet boy was left behind in an apartment after tenants moved out. Thankfully, the property manager found him and took him to a shelter — who in turn called us.

He is in the best possible home with the most wonderful forever family now — who will never leave him.

Pictured here are Charlie Brown with new mom, Mary, and little Brody. Lucy is hidden behind him!

Murphy Goode (formerly Tristan)

Murphy Good with Cody & RichardTristan — now Murphy Goode after his new parent's favorite wine — went to his forever home with former SHLR adoption alums Cody and Richard. They adopted Callie O'Malley from us previously and lost her last year. They missed her very much, and were waiting for the right companion to come along and settle into their hearts. Wonderfully settled and gorgeous Murphy did just that. All of us a SHLR that came into contact with him fell in love.

We want to especially thank Murphy's 2 foster families - Eliot and his family and Kristin and Brian for showering this handsome gentleman with love and attention and exercise! He is in the best possible home with the most wonderful forever parents.

Pictured here is Cody, Richard and Murphy Goode…together at last.

Polly (formerly Molly)

PollyLovely, elegant and purely delightful Polly (formerly Molly) has completely nosed her joyous self into the lives of her adoring foster — now forever — parents, Marie and Scott. Her adoption will be final after her vet check next week.

Polly was relinquished at 14 years of age to us. She came in with a urinary tract infection and really needing a pedicure — it was HARD to walk with those extra long nails. She also needed to gain some weight. She is all fixed up now and has very pretty toenails. We cannot imagine how anyone could part with this darling, she is so precious. She is very tolerant of the three Pomeranians that share her new home— one of whom is very bossy — all 6 pounds of her! She LOVES her twice daily walks around the neighborhood, when she stops every 2 feet to sniff for awhile to see what's new that day in the world of dog-mail. Her new dad calls her Queen SmellsALot. When Polly came to us she quickly mastered the doggie door, learned the routine, and taught everyone how to chill out - her motto is "there is nothing to be stressed about — let's take a snooze".

Polly can be found most days looking out the window from the comfy couch in mom's office, or on the very comfy orthopedic pillow in her personal apartment (crate) in mom's office, or on the very comfy orthopedic pillow in mom and dad's bedroom. She really has settled in and made herself right at home. We are so truly blessed to have this special senior girl in our lives.

Pretty Penny (formerly Ashley)

Pretty Penny with Rich, Terry & ShadowPretty Penny (formerly Ashley) went to her forever home with new parents, Rich and Terry, and big canine sis, Shadow. This four year old sweet chocolate girl came to us when she was no longer needed as breeding mom. She was treated for a severe uterine infection, spayed and given loads of love by her wonderful foster family.

Rich and Terry were looking for the right dog to round out their little family, and they knew it was Pretty Penny just as soon as they all met! Pictured here are Shadow, Rich, Penny and Terry on the day they became a family! Thank you to every single SHLR volunteer that helped make this happy day a reality for Penny. Everyone looks so happy, especially Pretty Penny who will now have the love of her very own forever family!

Kenzie

Kenzie and familyOur sweet little chocolate girl, Kenzie, was adopted by her wonderful forever mom and dad, Charli and Eric. Charli and Eric have been a wonderful foster home for some of our lucky labs — but they just could not give up little Kenzie — she really tugged at their hearts. You see, Kenzie has Progressive Retinal Atrophy and will eventually be blind. Charli and Eric wanted her to know where she is while she can still see a little, and have created a home environment that is clean and clutter-free.

They also have two wonderful lab siblings for little Kenzie to play with — Aspen and Bailey. Kenzie is clearly very happy and settled at her home and is just the picture of happiness.

Pictured are Charli, Eric, Bailey (black female), Aspen (yellow male) and Kenzie! Now Charli and Eric have a full assortment of labradorable canine kids!

Navi

NaviNavi went to his forever home today with James, Lisa and Matheson in Golden. This four year old lab boy has been exceptionally well loved and cared for, but circumstances have changed and he needed to find a new forever home.

James and his family were looking for that special dog to fill the hole left in their family by the passing of their beloved Herriet last month. James saw Navi on our website, and that was it. Navi came to their home with his wonderful foster parents Kristin and Brian — they walked a few miles across town with our athletic guy Navi to deliver him to his new home — and it was a love match!

Pictured here is James, Lisa, Navi and his new human brother Matheson— they are all ready to have a wonderful life growing up together!

Kona

Last fall, little one year old Kona was found stray in the mountains. He was taken to a shelter where he was then transferred to another shelter who contacted us...how scary that must have been for this little boy. Kona joined Safe Harbor in late November, and that was the beginning of the forever part of Kona's wonderful story:

Kona was taken in by one of our wonderful foster moms — Heather — and she took such great care of him!!!! When the holidays came, our other foster homes were bursting with dogs or unavailable due to the holidays - so Heather called her parents to ask a small favor — could they watch sweet little Kona for a few days? Heather's parents, Kim and Dave, said YES!!!! So Kona traveled to their home and settled in for a short stay. Well, Kim and Dave enjoyed having him so much - and he was doing so well — that they asked us if it might be OK for him to stay with them until someone adopted him? We thought that was a great idea...and Kona continued to settle in and get loved on and spoiled. Pretty soon came the call - might they be able to adopt sweet Kona? They turned in an application just like anyone else, and we said YES!

Kona could not have prayed for a more perfect home. He has two wonderful parents, two canine siblings, and all the love and happiness a little lab boy could ever ask for! Pictured is Kim with Kona right next to her with the orange collar. Apollo is the yellow lab, and Apache is the other black lab. What an awesome family for this great young boy!
