Kirin
Kirin went to his forever home today with Sherie and Troy and their family in Henderson. Kirin, a gorgeous and mellow 3 year old yellow lab with liquid brown eyes is slowly going blind, and he was hoping for a home where his new family would understand his special needs and give him the security he deserves and needs. Sherie and Troy have been planning on getting a dog for awhile, and recently decided now was the time. We got their application right after Kirin joined our program. Sherie and Troy have a very special home - because they also have a son who is 7 - Dillon - who is legally blind - and Kirin and Dillon will both be sharing a home that is set up for the special needs of someone who needs stuff in its place.
Brian, their 17 year old son took a particular shine to Kirin and has promised to exercise him daily to get some of his love handles off! Kirin needs to lose about 18 pounds yet to maintain a healthy weight.
Kirin was so lucky to have Sue and Joe and SHLR alumni sister Dixie as his foster family. They took great care of him, started him on his weight loss and exercise plan and drove him all the way to Henderson for his adoption today! Kirin wants to also thank our intake team for bringing in a special-needs boy like him, and our medical team for checking him out.
Pictured here is Kirin with mom and dad and Brian and Dillon in his awesome new backyard.

Cooper
Cooper went home with his new parents Ron and Phyllis today! This stunning 4 year old came to Safe Harbor when his family was forced to move. Cooper has had advanced hunting training, and is beyond wonderful! He is among the most well behaved dogs we have seen. What a LOVE!
At the same time Copper was coming in, Ron and Phyllis were looking for their new companion...and if he could be trained to hunt with Ron, that would just be icing on the cake! You can imagine how excited our adoption team was to introduce all of them!
Cooper is so grateful to Stephanie and her family, and to all of the SHLR team....even though he was not with us very long!
Here is Cooper with his thrilled new parents at his adoption today!

Noah
George (now Noah) went to his forever home in Greeley with his new parents Pam and Rex and their kids - all in late high school, college or out in the world. Noah took an immediate shine to Shelby, a college senior at CSU who happened to be home this evening.
Noah will be living the good life as the most doted upon companion of this active family. They all loved him at first sight. Noah took a quick tour with his beloved stuffed duckie in his mouth and pronounced himself home.
We want to especially thank our intake and transport team for getting Noah into our system from Nebraska, where his odds were not looking so hot. He was lovingly fostered by Stephanie and her family, and he was clearly adored there. Noah is a BIG boy, and he will have BIG adventures with his wonderful new family.
Pictured here is Noah, Pam, Rex and Shelby at Noah's adoption tonight.

Lexi
Lexi went home with her new mom Erinn today! This sweet girl was found wandering dazed and very ill in the middle of Wadsworth during a winter storm in early December — it was clear she had been fending for herself as a stray for quite some time. A Good Samaritan rushed her to a local emergency clinic…where she ran into our SHLR president and medical coordinator. We took her into our program, fixed up a bad gash on her leg, rehydrated her and got her weight up...and then waited for the perfect home to present itself.
Lexi and Erinn are looking forward to lots of running and playing together. Erinn is a runner and a law student, so she will have lots of time to lavish on Lexi and keep her happy and active to help her burn off some young lab energy! Lexi is very blessed — she and her new mom were headed home to beautiful Wyoming!
A distinct thank you to all those involved in this special rescue, including Carol who fostered her while Lexi was restored to health and awaiting her forever home.

Ernie
Ernie went home with his new parents Richard and Cyndee today! This sweet 6 year old was found stray in the country - and no one ever came to get him. The shelter asked us if we could take him and we said yes! We discovered that darling Ernie had a few problems — some bad hips and elbows resulting in arthritis, and a bad tooth. Despite the discomfort he must have been in — he literally had an exposed root in his mouth — he was so loving and calm. His foster parents Tom and Amy took such great care of him, and they really loved on him — something we think was very new to him.
Richard and Cyndee were looking for a sweet lab boy to add to their family. When our adoption coordinator called to tell them about Ernie — and told them about his medical issues — they didn't' hesitate — they said "When can we take him home?"
We LOVE such great people, and such wonderful beginnings for these dogs that have been cast off or forgotten — or both. Lucky Ernie is now home, and you can see he knows it. He goes to work every day with his doting dad, and gets cuddled by his mom every night.
Ernie wants to thank his foster parents, our wonderful intake and medical teams and all of the SHLR volunteers that helped him get home!
Here is Ernie looking quite dashing!

Sal
Our resident cute little guy Sal — an adorable 18 month old sweetheart — went to his forever home today! It is hard to believe that Sal got into Safe Harbor JUST IN TIME — he was just another BIG BLACK DOG (BBD) at a local shelter, and his time was up. Our awesome intake and foster teams got him out just in time…and he found his way to his wonderful new home with Jane and Steve in Durango! Sal was extra lucky to have John and Deb as his foster parents. They provided lots of love and space to play, and he had a blast with them.
Sal's new parents are both home all the time, so he can look forward to some necessary obedience training, running with dad and lots of playing at the local dog park!
Pictured here is Sal with mom and dad at his adoption today. Steve and Jane drove into Denver just to come get our special little guy...and we are sure glad for him that they did. They are driving back to Durango today with their very precious cargo!

Remy
Remy went to his forever home today with his new parents Tom and Chris of Franktown who are completely smitten with him! This rambunctious youngster was left at a local shelter where he was very stressed and basically bouncing off the walls. We brought him into our program in early December. He was so lucky to have been personally worked with by our own Carol Rosenfield to help him learn some manners and become an adoptable young man. After almost 2 months with Carol, Remy "graduated' to the home of his foster parents Sherri and Troy where he simply thrived with their 2 other dogs and busy household! Remy is now the picture of a young teenage lab boy — incredibly sweet, lots of energy, and a complete blast to be with!
Remy's new mom Chris works from home, so he will have lots of opportunity to hang out with his people, and they have a huge yard for him to play fetch in….he will be in Remy Dog heaven!
Pictured here is Remy with mom and dad Tom and Chris at his adoption.

Delaney
Delaney (now Laney) was officially adopted today by her loving foster mom Deb. Delaney came to us in rough shape about 6 weeks ago. She was in need of some medical treatment and was very frightened of men She went to Deb's home as a foster, where they really bonded over time - and then one day Deb said "She belongs here with me." Delaney is so deserving of the wonderful home that Deb is already providing for her, and we are all so pleased to see them together.
Delaney wants to especially thank our intake and medical teams for helping her along the way. She is such a loving and gorgeous girl, and we know that the rest of her life will be wonderful with her mom Deb.

Dash
Dash (formerly Cabo) has been a wonderful addition to our household. Here he is in the Grand Tetons enjoying our recent vacation. He is a great camper! Dash and our German shepherd, Trio, were truly meant for one other and have become best buddies. Thanks Safe Harbor!
Darby & Anita
Here's a very exciting update we received from Dash's family 11/15/07: Our boy Dash learned his obedience so fast that we took him to Pueblo last weekend to compete in an AKC event. He earned qualifying scores both days toward his title in Rally Obedience, Novice B. That is quite an accomplishment for a dog that was a stray on the streets in August. Next competition isn't until January, but we will keep you posted.
Good boy, Dash!
Darby & Anita
A very special newsflash from Dash's family 2/16/08: Dash earned his AKC Rally Novice title today and placed 5th out of 35 dogs. Not too shabby for a stray!
