My husband and I adopted Abbey, formally Libby, in May 2016. We had lost our previous dog, a 14.5 year old Golden Retriever, and we were so missing the love and companionship of a dog. We found Safe Harbor Rescue and adopted Abbey the moment we met her. My husband and I moved from Denver to Boise, Idaho in September of last year in hopes of retiring here. Six weeks after we moved to Boise my husband died suddenly of a heart attack. It was completely unexpected and I had to deal with the challenge of knowing very few people since we had just moved here. My friend summed it up, I didn’t rescue Abbey, she rescued me. That is the truth. Abbey has been my great companion and a source of love and support to me since my husband died. I don’t know how I would have made it without her. She is a sweet, well behaved, wonderful girl who loves to give kisses and hugs. I just want Safe Harbor to know how glad I am to have found Abbey and how lucky both of us are to have found each other. Adopting Abbey was one of the best things I have done.
