Miss Hershey spent seven months, almost half her life, in a small Arkansas shelter. Arkansas has one of the highest incidences of heartworm disease in the US and our Hershey was bitten by an infected mosquito. Her treatment following the American Heartworm Society protocol will span several months and include medications, three injections of heartworm killing medicine, hospitalization for observation and months of rest in her foster home to recover from the procedure. Surrounded by a mountain of new toys, she’s enjoying being pampered for the first time in her life.
Our veterinary partner for Hershey’s veterinary care is Alameda East Veterinary Hospital.
