Duke is quite a character who is an expert at channeling his “inner puppy”! At eight years old he may have some grey on his snout, but he’s the poster child for the “forever young” Lab. He’s a trim and active 55 pounds and could gain a few. He takes treats with gusto, so those extra pounds will come easily. Duke was abandoned by a truck driver and ended up at an over-crowded shelter.

Duke’s foster mom told us on a recent walk that a passer-by complimented her on “her stunning dog.” Duke was too busy sniffing to blush at the compliment. Our boy is house trained, crate trained, working on some commands and is a friendly greeter. On leash walks a front clip type harness is best, and he likes to move along at a good pace. Toys get two paws up and we’re waiting for his comments about retrieving. He gets along well with other dogs; don’t know about cats. Vinyl floors are little scary. Best not to leave munchies out on the counter.

His foster mom adds:

“Duke is very sweet. He likes pets and his tail is always wagging when you talk to him. Duke LOVES being outside and going for walks. He is surprisingly active and could probably hike. While he enjoys a nap and sleeps soundly all night, he’s no couch potato!

“Duke will do best in a home with an experienced owner who knows they will be taking on an adult dog with a lot of puppy behaviors. Duke doesn’t seem like he has had a lot of people that he can trust in his life, so they need to be reassuring. Someone with the time to dedicate to training and lots of outdoors time. Right now, I would say he would do best with someone who is home a large chunk of the day or has a dog to keep him company.”

So, grab some treats and make a date to meet Duke, one lovable and goofy guy!
