Miss Mattie, a very gentle soul, is a six-year-old Lab mix who loves to be loved. At 91 pounds she remarks, “My holiday party dress might be a tad less snug if I shed a few pounds!” Mattie came to us from a disabled community member in crisis who had to leave her home and Mattie behind. Understandably, this left Miss Mattie, who had been with her owner and another canine housemate since puppyhood, feeling quite unsettled.
Once with her kind foster dad, Mattie could take a breath and start to enjoy life again. She’s house trained, fine with free roam of the house, knows sit and shake, and rides quietly in the car. A little boost is welcome. Mattie is a very nice walking on leash . . . hold on if she sees a small critter! She is a friendly greeter who appreciates having a moment to gather her courage to show you her warm personality. She also appreciates carpeted surfaces or areas rugs. “Slick floors are tricky!” she woofs.
Mattie’s foster dad adds:
“Mattie is a pleasant companion, very easy to take care of, loves attention and has some cute, flirty mannerisms. She enjoys walks, tummy rubs, butt scratches, and rolling in snow. When Mattie arrived, she was very frightened, but has gained a lot of confidence and is now rarely frightened. It has been fun to watch her overcome fears and become a normal friendly, confident dog. She is now usually calm and friendly and an excellent companion.
“I think that she would enjoy a home with adults who allow pets on the furniture. We watch movies together on the sofa in the evening. If a movie doesn’t suit her, she puts herself to bed for the night. She has lived with another dog, but would probably relish being an only pet, too.”
A lovely, tender-hearted young lady with a lot of love to give, that’s our Miss Mattie!
