Quality control is one of Rory’s many charms. Julie never thought she would have someone checking her work when she adopted this 3 1/2-year-old. He is quality control wrapped up in a red fox Labrador. Julie has had labs who follow her around, but Rory takes it to a new level tracking each step as she mows her large lawn. Rory and Julie are working on reaching a mutual agreement on leash walking. Negotiations are going well.

Here is an update:

Since adopting this handsome three-and-a half-year-old, we’ve had quite a few hiking adventures. He seems to belong in Colorado. I renamed him “Rory” which translates to Red Headed King in Gaelic. I think it suits him and he’s responding to it.

He’s had some issues with leash walking, so WE have enrolled in some training and we’ve already gotten better. He follows me everywhere, which has been typical of every Lab I’ve had in my life. The funniest part of that attribute is that he follows behind as I mow the lawn and we have a big backyard! Imagine seeing a dog following behind, back and forth, every row; truly comical.

Every day gets better in terms of making a connection with him. At first, he was very jumpy and wasn’t interested in affection. I honored that and simply played ball with him and of course provided lots of treats, but now he allows lots of pets and even hugs.

We’re just going to keep training and building the bond. I love him!

Thanks to Linda for fostering and facilitating Rory/Max
