Two year old Gracie, is small, but don’t let that fool you! She is adventurous and hot on the trail with her forever family. She has taken charge of the family fitness routines, lending them helping paws, while they, exceed previous expectations of their wellness goals. As for Gracie, she now understands the freedom that love provides. Here is what Tammy had to say about Gracie:
We lost our other Safe Harbor Lab rescue, Stella, this past April at 12+ years and we were just devastated. We actually never thought we would find another dog that was as good as Stella in so many ways but we have been just absolutely blessed with our new little girl Gracie. We can’t say enough about how happy that we were to be able to adopt her! She obviously had a very rough start in life and never had a chance to be a dog! For example, when we got her, she knew nothing about bones or toys and now her favorite thing to do at the end of a long day is to lie down with one of her chew sticks on one of her gazillion extra thick blankets that are everywhere around the house and just happily chew away and relax!
And she is learning so much about her new life so fast! When we first got her she was terrified to go on walks because it meant putting her on a leash. We wondered if she thought, that every time she had been put on a leash before we adopted her, meant she would be taken somewhere new, by someone new, just to be left behind, or dumped. Now, we do a minimum of two speed walks a day, averaging 3 miles each and she lets us know in no uncertain terms that she expects to go when she wants to go! I’m not complaining though because I have lost 13 pounds to date and brought my blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure all back into normal range so I call her the best personal trainer I’ve ever had. And she definitely has whipped my husband back into shape as well!
In addition to her walks, she’s learning what it means to hike and snowshoe with us and she is absolutely flawless off leash when we take her on these types of trips. In fact, yesterday she just did her first snowshoe trek with us (almost 6 miles) and she was exhausted but content at the end of the day.
We are looking forward to many years of having this little girl by our side and doing all the things with her that we like to do!
