Twas the night before Christmas and Honey had just arrived at Preston’s house.  Honey didn’t come down the chimney or suddenly appear under the tree, but this lovely three-year-old Lab girl is the gift that will keep on giving forever. She quickly settled in and has been busy showing her new dad that nothing is sweeter than a Honey-Chocolate Lab pup.

Thank you for connecting Honey and me. We have been rescuing each other since Dec 24, 2024. Her transition to living with me has been almost seamless. She seemed right at home especially after seeing her backyard for the first time (covered in snow)! Only a few minor accidents getting adjusted to my schedule but once her dog door was installed, both of us were happy. Well one of us! Honey loves to roll in the grass/snow/mud/puddle/etc. She loves to get dirty outside and brings it inside and then cleans herself off in the house. I am learning to let her express her personality, but we are working on keeping the messy part outside. Especially because we have not found a bed yet that she enjoys outside of sleeping on the bed with me.

These last two weeks I have really seen her open up more to me and have some great puppy moments of energy and zoomies in the backyard, destroying some stuffies she didn’t enjoy, and using her alert bark more when people knock on the door. My parents have two black Labs (also from SHLR) that she has met and quickly bonded with as she is the fastest/smallest dog and only one to fit under their deck at that house. She is also the instigator and almost bullies the bigger boys around. They come over often for play dates and when she is told they are coming, she sits on her couch at the window waiting.

We are really excited about the future. Camping, hiking and a few road trips are in the future for us and I’m really looking forward to more bonding time with Honey and less work.

Many thanks to Pat for fostering Honey!
