Lucky lived up to his name when Betsy and Dave chose this oh-so-handsome hunk of a Lab to join their family.  Lucky has made himself right at home, and as the self-appointed official greeting committee he takes pride in always answering the door carrying a gift for whomever has arrived.  Good boy, Lucky!

Betsy and Dave sent us an update on their new boy:

After a difficult last few months of 2024 when we lost both of our beloved boys to cancer, we decided to adopt another furry friend. We had heard great things about SHLR and were thrilled with their hard work to find the right dog for us.

On February 8, we went to a foster home to meet a 4 year old yellow lab named Lucky. He was certainly much larger than any dog we’d ever owned but we fell in love with him at first sight. He is a gentle giant who doesn’t know his size (or weight..100 lbs) and would like to be a velcro dog if not a lap dog. He is a calm boy who enjoys meeting people and is not a kisser which makes him an ideal candidate for therapy dog work (our former boys were very active therapy dogs and we hope that Lucky will enjoy the experiences as well.)

He enjoys car rides and his daily walks exploring his new neighborhood and other fun places like state parks, national parks and soon, mountain hikes. He has also been a welcome help for us with our backyard squirrel and rabbit management, He really loves his after adventure naps- occupying 2/3 of the couch, 1/4+ of a king sized bed or one of his many outdoor lounging spots.

In addition to trimming him down a bit, we are working on learning loose leash walking and basic commands. The Leave It command is providing some challenges. He is a true lab in that he needs something in his mouth when he greets you – a couch pillow, shoe, slipper and occasionally a toy. He came with the name Lucky and we decided it described how we all felt with having him in our lives. Thank you SHLR – a great job done to match us with this special dog!

Many thanks to Greg for fostering Lucky!
