Pretty little Pippa has traded life on the lam, with intermittent shelter stays, for all the comforts of home. Pippa couldn’t be more pleased about her new life with Jennifer and Brad and is particularly fond of the regular mealtimes, soft beds, and ample supply of tennis balls. The best part, of course, is having a loving family of her very own and knowing that they have all welcomed her home forever (despite the occasional side-eye from her new Lab sister, Millie). In return, Pippa has promised to always fill their home with her own special brand of Lab love and lots of chocolate-colored dog hair. “It’s win-win,” woofs Miss Pippa as she dashes off to make sure Millie isn’t hogging all the tennis balls.
Pippa’s new parents tell us: “In England, December 26th is Boxing Day when traditionally gifts were distributed to employees and families opened their main presents. It seems appropriate that we drove to Denver on 12/26/2023 to meet and adopt Pippa, earlier known as Boo, from her lovely foster mum Karen. Pippa had been a stray and had been held in at least two shelters in Utah. She is a lovely little chocolate Lab, weighing in at just over fifty pounds. According to her chipping record at one shelter she is three and a half years old, but there is still a lot of puppy in her.
She joined our eleven and a half year old black Lab, Millie, an earlier rescue from Safe Harbor. Millie is not sure it is a match made in heaven, but they do get along fine, and it has perked Millie up a lot. Pippa loves playing ball and runs like crazy, so Millie has taken up tennis balls again at a slower pace. Somewhere in her life Pippa had been loved and trained. She knows all basic commands although often has the concentration of a puppy. I was delighted that she runs out and brings the newspaper in for us, sometimes a little chewed but quite readable. She is attending “Angels In The Making” dog class here in Grand Junction and shows how smart she is by learning very quickly.
We are learning new habits too, like, don’t ever leave food ANYWHERE on the counter, don’t go out for the second bag of groceries without hiding the first, don’t turn your back on a hamburger – cooked or raw. We think this little pup has had some hungry times in her life.
Thank you Safe Harbor volunteers for bringing two wonderful Labs into our lives.” Many thanks to Karen and Steve for fostering Pippa/Boo!
