We adopted Winnie in late October of 2020 when she was 6 1/2 years old.  She has been an amazing addition to our family.  She is energetic, smart, and lovable.  Everyone who has met her loves her.  This photo was taken 12/26/25, her 12th birthday.  We were not sure she would see this day.  She became very ill September of this year.  I ran bloodwork and took radiographs of her diagnosing liver disease.  After a few days of poor response to the medications, I took her to a 24 hour ER/Specialty hospital in Denver.  After 3 days of intense care and tests, they diagnosed vegetative endocarditis, a condition with a very poor prognosis.  She spent a total of 8 days in ICU before her release.  She has been on 6-8 oral medications and 3 injectables daily for 3 months and is doing quite well.  Her cardiologist is calling her “the miracle dog”.  She will get an echocardiogram the end of January to determine if she will need the antibiotics for the full 6 month regimen.  She normally explores the mountains of southern Colorado, our home.  For Christmas, we traveled to Arizona to visit family.  Tomorrow, we head to the Grand Canyon for a few days.
We are embracing every day we have her.  Please let her former family know how much she is loved by us.  We know they did not want to let her go.
